Who is LAURA MARTIN?

I'm Laura Martin, and I'm running for Colorado House District 17 because I believe leadership is about service to the community—and my community is Southeast Colorado Springs.

I’ve never been someone who waits around for permission to make a difference. I’ve always believed if something matters, you step up and do it.

I started young. At 16 years old, I was teaching ballroom dance and working in concert production, not because I had a perfect plan, but because I didn’t know you weren’t “supposed” to just go after what you wanted in life.

That mindset stayed with me.

In my 20s, I moved to Los Angeles knowing just one person and built a career in the entertainment industry. I learned quickly how to navigate high-pressure environments, work with all kinds of personalities, and execute at a high level.

But what mattered most to me wasn’t the spotlight, it was the people.

That’s what led me to build my own business, Event Excellence Consulting, where I’ve spent years helping non-profits create meaningful, successful events that bring communities together and raise critical funding. Through that work, I’ve had the opportunity to serve hundreds of organizations and be part of efforts that have raised millions of dollars for important causes.

At the same time, I’ve always had a heart for service. I’ve led large serve teams at my local church, and I’m deeply passionate about teaching people what it means to truly show up for others, not just in words, but in action.

I’m also a writer at heart. I write stories that reflect faith, growth, and purpose because I believe our lives are meant to mean something.

When I look back, my path hasn’t been traditional, but that’s exactly the point.

I’ve worn a lot of hats. I’ve taken risks. I’ve stepped into rooms I wasn’t “supposed” to be in and that’s why I know I can do this job.

Being a State Representative shouldn’t be a role that is for a trained professional. It is about people leading the people. It’s about leadership, problem-solving, and having the courage to step up when it matters.

That’s what I’ve done my whole life. And it’s what I will do for House District 17.
